Do you have a natural stone countertop that is no longer shiny? Most of the time when a customer asks us why their countertop is not shiny anymore, it turns out that some sort of film is sitting on the surface. This happens when one does not use the proper cleanser, or when they clean their granite surface with water and dish soap. (This will eventually lead to soap film build up.) Give us a call at 801-856-0164. We can provide solutions for you!

Slate is natural stone that from time to time needs professional cleaning and sealing. Slate comes in several different textures. There is a smooth slate and a cleft or rough finish. Slate is a porous stone that needs to be properly cleaned and sealed after installation.

There are several different ways to finish slate. There are color enhancers, topical coatings such as wax, penetrating sealers and others. The type of seal used will determine the finished look you will achieve. You can achieve a gloss finish, matte finish or a low luster finish. These finishes depend upon what you are looking for. Stone Surface Specialists can service all your slate needs and customize finishes to your need. Give us a call at 801-856-014!

The misconception that since marble is a stone it does not need any maintenance is far from the truth. All marble needs some type of care and maintenance. Your marble needs depend upon where it is used— floors, walls, countertops, vanities or shower walls.

Marble is generally a softer stone and comes in many colors with different and beautiful veining. Some marbles are harder than others. The truth is that marble will scratch, etch and lose its shine and luster if not maintained properly.

If you have a polished marble floor, wall, countertop vanity or shower that has become etched, has lost its shine and beauty or is in need of repair, then it is time to call a professional marble restoration contractor. Stone Surface Specialists serves Salt Lake City and all of Utah and can repair, refinish, protect and restore your marble, limestone, travertine, saturnia or other natural stone back to its original condition. Call us anytime for a free estimate at 801-856-0164!

Do’s and Don’ts-Treating Spills:

Some spills will turn out to be detrimental to stone if unattended. Orange juice, lemonade, wine, vinegar, liquors, tomato sauce, yogurt, salad dressing, perfume, after shave, the wrong cleaning products and so on, through a long list, most like won’t damage “granite” and “green marble” surfaces (at least in the short run), but will ETCH marble, travertine, limestone, onyx, alabaster and many slates.

Therefore:
DO-pick up any spills as quickly as possible

DON’T-rub the spill, only blot it

DON’T-use cleaning products on or near your natural stone unless the label specifies that it is safe on the natural marble (cultured marble is man-made, and it’s basically a plastic material). This includes glass cleaner to clean the mirror over a marble vanity top, or a liquid toilet bowl cleaner when the toilet is set on a marble floor.

For more tips see our care guide or contact us at 801-856-0164
