Will Acid-Stained Concrete Fade in Park City’s High Altitude UV Exposure?

At Stone Surface Specialists, we get asked this question a lot by customers who want to color, seal and protect their beautiful concrete, indoors and outdoors.

Acid-based chemical stains are a mixture of water, hydrochloric acid and acid-soluble metallic salts. They work by penetrating the concrete’s surface and reacting chemically with the hydrated lime, or calcium hydroxide, in the cured concrete. The acid in the stain actually etches the surface, allowing the metallic salts to penetrate the concrete more easily. Once this reaction happens, it becomes a permanent part of the concrete and won’t fade, chip off or peel away, making acid-stain a fantastic choice to color and seal concrete that will spend its life in Park City, Heber or Utah’s generally high elevation and UV exposure.

All our concrete technicians at Stone Surface Specialists are geniuses at helping you choose the perfect color palette for your concrete and then applying it to make your concrete even more beautiful than it is naturally.
