Can acid stain peel off?

We get asked this question a lot at Stone Surface Specialists. And thankfully the answer is no, acid stains do not peel off. Hurrah and hallelujah!

Acid stains chemically react with your concrete to permanently bind with the surface. This makes them one of the most stable, tough and long-lasting ways to color your concrete.

Acid stains are very versatile – they can be used indoors and outdoors, applied to new or existing concrete, and, because they penetrate the concrete’s surface, they have excellent color stability in the sun and resistance to wear.

There are many color options available, although less choice than their water-based counterparts – colors are limited to soft blue-greens and earth tones.

Acid stains are difficult to work with, require specialist tools and application methods, and contain highly corrosive ingredients. For these reasons, acid stains should only be applied by a professional.
