How To Choose Countertops – Tile

So you’ve planned your kitchen layout, you know you want those gorgeous cabinets with the ultra-sleek handles – but now you have to choose a countertop and you’re stuck. How do you decide which countertop material will look most beautiful in your new kitchen and will work best with your lifestyle? In our easy 10-part guide, we’ll talk about the top countertop materials from the expert’s perspective, and help you decide which is right for you.

This week, we’re looking at perennially popular and versatile tile.

Price: $5-$30 a square foot, depending on quality, source and uniqueness

Pros: Wallet-friendly and offered in many varieties, including natural stone (granite and marble), hand-painted ceramic, and durable porcelain. It’s heat-resistant and, unless you drop something heavy on it, durable. You can lay patterned tile in various configurations.

Cons: Uneven surface. Also, direct can catch in the grout. Grout needs to be sealed.

How To Clean It: Wipe with soap and water; dry with a cloth. Use a toothbrush to clean the grout using the manufacturer’s recommended solution.
