Is It Possible To Use Water-Based Color Stains at Altitude On Concrete?

Yes!

At Stone Surface Specialists, we adore using water-based stains on concrete. If you want to go beyond the subtle drama and subdued earth-toned palette of acid staining, water-based stains are the way to go.  There are so many possibilities as they come in a much broader spectrum of hues to acid stains, giving you a veritable artist’s palette of almost endless color options.

Most manufacturers offer dozens of standard color options, including black and white and even metallic tints (yay!). Like acid stains, water-based stains (typically a blend of pigments and acrylic polymers) penetrate the surface of the concrete, creating a permanent color change, ranging from translucent to opaque depending on the product.

Both types of stain can be applied to new or old, unfinished or integrally colored concrete. They are especially effective for revitalizing dull, lackluster surfaces. Because they penetrate the concrete surface, most water-based stains have excellent UV stability and wear resistance.
